About My Illustrations
Hello I'm Yasi Mosadeq and this is my story: I was interested in painting and illustration since I was a young child, even though I didn't know fully understand what illustration entailed at the time. Whenever I flipped through picture books, I desired to be the creator behind those images, envisioning the illustrator more than the illustrations within the book.
As I grew older, I discovered that pursuing art was incredibly exciting. The realization was monumental, and in 2013, I embarked on a three-year journey to study Fine Arts. However, life took an unexpected turn, leading me to the world of puppet theatre in university – a fascinating journey.
Although I cherished both puppetry and art, I was not satisfied by the two. It was then that I started exploring the world of digital illustration, enjoying every step of the process. I learnt everything on my own and in a tiny room, and yet it was never tiring. I had found my true calling.
To me, illustration is a universal language crafted by artists, and accessible to all. This is it. This is my story.
My illustrations have a story of their own: they are predominantly focused on women, especially those in Iran. They shed light on sexism, patriarchy, and governmental oppression. After the tragic death of Mahsa Amini, I channeled my illustrations towards advocating change. Alongside numerous Iranian artists, I contributed to the Woman Life Freedom movement in my own way, using symbolic imagery such as birds, flowers, and representations of both genders united.
In my art, I draw the world I dream of—free of the brutality I grew up in. A world where boys and girls unite to destroy hatred with pure hearts and hopeful hands.
I draw for those who aspire to see a free Iran—a place where freedom reigns. I hope my illustrations and words resonate with you.
Best Regards, Yasi Mosadeq
